MIRACLE TIMELINE

as recounted by Detective Royal’s widow:

  • 12-12-10  Sunday evening, while driving home from a Christmas program, Jamie turned deeply toward vehicles facing us while making a left-hand turn. I yelled, “Turn! Turn!” He slowly turned our vehicle.

Thank you, Lord, that the on-coming traffic was stopped for the light .

  • 12-13-10 Monday  Jamie later recounted these events to me: "On the way to work, I realized my car was suddenly on the center median.  I immediately regained control of the vehicle.

Arriving at my substation, I drove past the employee parking lot, backed up, and entered. I wondered, 'What’s going on?  How'd I do that?'

  •  Once in front of my computer, I realized another problem.  My vision wasn't right. I could hardly make out the words on the screen!
  • I spoke with my supervisor. We decided I should take the day off.  I called home, "Hon, I'm on my way home. Something weird's going on with my vision. Maybe it's some kind of migraine. Will you call and set up an appointment with our doctor? Sergeant Frasier's driving me home."

An hour later, I drove Jamie to our doctor’s office. After a quick exam, the physician handed papers to Jamie. "These are orders for you to see a neurologist."

Thank You, Lord for  allowing Jamie to be seen as the first patient!

Once home, Jamie went back to bed. I called the first referred neurologist’s office. The receptionist explained, "It could be a 3-6 month wait before there's an appointment."  The second office's employee echoed the reply.

On my third attempt, I used a different tactic, “Ma’am, my husband is a police officer.  He can’t go back to work until he's  seen a neurologist. Would you please call if you have any cancellations?”

"Yes, what's your phone number and  husband's name?"

Lord, we need a miracle. We’re counting on You!

  • 12-14-10 Tuesday 9:20 a.m. The last receptionist I spoke with phoned.

”We have an opening for an appointment today at noon.”

  “We’ll be there!"

Thank You, Lord, for arranging this appointment!

12:15 p.m. The neurologist gave Jamie orders  for an M.R.I.

Lord, please get him in soon!

I called the hospital to schedule the MRI.

“We have an opening tomorrow morning at 9:30.”

“Put Jamie Royal's name down for that appointment!"

Thank You, Lord, for keeping things moving!

  • 12-15-10 Wednesday 9:30 a.m.  I drove Jamie to his M.R.I. appointment.

Once finished, the technician shook Jamie’s hand. Jamie continued telling one of his favorite stories. His tale wound up as they walked past the receptionist and waiting patients. The two continued shaking hands until they reached the exit door.

After we were in our car, Jamie commented, “That was strange. Before we walked out of the office, the technician squeezed my hand. He had tears in his eyes. He squeezed my hand and said, 'Good luck.'"

2:00 p.m. The neurologist called and spoke with Jamie, " Your M.R.I. showed you might have a brain tumor. I want to admit you  to the hospital immediately. As an admitted patient, you'll be put  on the surgery schedule as soon as possible.

Lord, give us Your strength and grace!

2:45 p.m. Jamie was admitted to Memorial Hospital.

  • 12-16,17-2010 Thursday - Friday Countless coworkers, friends and family members visited Jamie. Their support encouraged us.

Thank You, Lord, for  surrounding us with love in the middle of all of this!

  • 12-18-10 Saturday Eight days after first symptom, the neurosurgeon removed the tumor from Jamie's brain.

Thank You, Lord, that he lived through the surgery.

Give us direction for treatment!

  • 12-19-10 Sunday  The surgeon somberly entered Jamie's hospital room. He sternly stated,  "I was able to remove the entire tumor. It looks cancerous. You probably have 3-4 years to live. An oncologist will be in when as the pathology report is complete."

Jamie prayed with me after the doctor left the room,

"Lord, give us Your peace and wisdom! Show us the path You want me to take."

  • 12-20-10 Monday  The oncologist entered the hospital room. He pronounced, “You’ve got the the worst of the worst kind of cancer.  It's a glioblastoma.  If you have more surgeries, radiation, and chemo  you might live a year ."

Without hesitation, Jamie solemnly asked,  “What if I do nothing?”

The doctor replied, “3-6 months”

“I choose option A. I know where I’m going when I die. I want to spend what time I have left with friends and family being as healthy as possible.

Lord, thank You for giving us Your strength and courage.

I had complete peace. I saw the same comfort in Jamie’s eyes. In prior years we’d talked about what we'd do if faced with something serious. We knew and understood  each other’s choices.

  • Tuesday 12-21-10 Jamie prayed  before he was discharged from the hospital. "Lord, be with us. Make the most of the time I have left !  You number our days. Give us Your  strength and wisdom! Thank you  for  covering us with Your peace."

  • 12-22-10  Wednesday We met with Police Chief Meyers.  My strong husband was placed on  sick leave for the remainder of his life.

Thank You, Lord, for a job that’s enabled Jamie to build up sick time and fellow officers willing to donate their  sick time toward him if it’s needed!

  • 12-26-10 Sunday morning  11:00

Eight days post surgery, my spouse, Detective Jamie Royal,  spoke in front of our church.

A friend  filmed the event.

Throughout  the rest of his life Jamie and our daughter gave Bibles to family, friends, and fellow first-responders.

Jamie asked us, “Please keep giving them away after I’m gone.”

Jamie  spoke to ten groups during the following seven weeks.

God called my hubby to his eternal home, heaven, exactly two months after the surgery.

The funeral went nothing like we planned.

That evening, I cried out to God, “Why didn’t things go like we wanted?"

I heard God’s voice tenderly, yet firmly, whisper to my soul,

“I’m not finished with Fearless Ministry.

I want you to make a copy of Jamie sharing My message available to everyone!”

“Okay, Lord, but  I don’t even know where to begin!

You’re going to have to do it!”

“I WILL.”
